Office of Merit Scholarships, Fellowships & Awards (OMSFA)

Students have the opportunity to study, work, intern and engage overseas both as an enrolled student and post-graduation.

There are scholarships available to support traditional study abroad experiences for enrolled students. These experiences may be short-term (1-2 weeks), a whole year long, or something in-between (1 quarter or semester), and generally take place in an university setting outside the U.S. Both undergraduate and graduate students can take advantage of study abroad opportunities.

Other international experiences may include funding for gap or bridge opportunities for recent grads or early career professionals. The projects or experiences may be community-based, academic or even career-building internships. Some experiences may be fully- or partially-funded and may be short-term (3-6 months) or longer-term (1 year or more).

Finally, there are scholarships that fund graduate school abroad. Some opportunities may fully cover a multi-year graduate program or a year of graduate-level courses, while others offer support for dissertation research or an independent project.

Plan ahead

Giving yourself at least 1-2 years in advance of when you want to be engaging overseas will give you more time to find and apply for the scholarships that can support you. Plan for most scholarship deadlines to be 1-1.5 years in advance of when the funding would be available, if you are selected.
