Public service and/or community leadership
Public service can happen in all realms (government, nonprofit, or private sector), all levels (local, federal, international) and all fields through which someone intends to work toward solving the world's most complex problems and enriching the lives of others. Public service professions include, but are not limited to: teachers, community organizers, scientists, entrepreneurs, social-impact business leaders, artists, and more.
Similarly, community leadership is when a core group of respected individuals, from within the community, empower the whole community. Typically, in this shared model, community leaders help facilitate conversations, connect members and provide direction.
UW students are often engaged in public service activities without recognizing it in those terms. Recognizing your efforts and connecting with scholarships that can support you and the communities you serve is an important step.
