Abigail Garcia
Abigail Garcia is a senior at the University of Washington (UW), majoring in Medical Anthropology and Global Health with a minor in Dance. In addition to her clinical work, she has conducted bench research in two UW labs and is co-advised by Dr. Sara Webb in the PBS Lab. She also volunteers as a Spanish-language medical interpreter at a nonprofit clinic, where she helps bridge communication barriers for underserved communities.
Abigail’s passion for healthcare accessibility stems from her volunteer work and research experiences, which have deepened her understanding of patient care and disparities in the medical system. She is applying for this scholarship to gain further opportunities to engage with underserved communities and expand her contributions to healthcare equity. In the future, she hopes to pursue a career where she can combine her clinical expertise and advocacy efforts to improve healthcare accessibility for diverse populations.
Goals
In the near future, I plan to apply to post-baccalaureate programs to strengthen my academic foundation as I prepare for a career in healthcare. I also intend to continue my training as a medical interpreter to further develop my ability to support linguistically diverse patient populations. In the long term, I hope to integrate these experiences into a career focused on improving healthcare accessibility and patient advocacy, particularly for underserved communities.
Tips
Just keep applying. It's disappointing to not get something when you give your best effort but that doesn't mean you won't get it the next time or get something even better.
