Ariana Bocanegra
My name is Ariana Bocanegra, and I am currently completing my Business Direct Transfer Agreement (DTA) at Tacoma Community College. My goal is to transfer to the University of Washington to earn my bachelor's degree in Human Resources Management. As an immigrant, I learned early on how important it is to have strong support and clear guidance when navigating unfamiliar systems. This background inspired my passion for human resources, where I want to use my education to advocate for others, bridge communication gaps, and support people in the workplace.
I already try to bring this community-minded approach to my life outside of school. I spend my time volunteering at my church, which allows me to connect with and serve the people around me. Additionally, working in human resources has given me hands-on experience in the field. Balancing my job, church involvement, and college courses takes a lot of organization, but it keeps me grounded and deeply motivated. What motivated me to apply for the Martin Achievement Scholarship was the foundation's incredible commitment to transfer students. Knowing that this award provides multi-year support, both during my final year at TCC and my time at UW, made me feel like the committee truly wants to invest in my long-term future.
Receiving this scholarship relieves a massive financial burden, allowing me to focus entirely on my upper-level HR courses and campus life at UW. It gives me the peace of mind to focus on my studies and my career path, ensuring that I can graduate ready to make a positive impact as a human resources professional.
Goals
In the near term, my goal is to successfully transfer from Tacoma Community College to the University of Washington and complete my bachelor's degree in Human Resources Management. Looking further ahead, I plan to launch my career as an HR professional where I can advocate for employees and build supportive workplace environments. Ultimately, I want to use my experience and background as an immigrant to step into leadership roles that help bridge communication gaps and support diverse communities.
