Major: Integrated Social Sciences, Online
Pronouns: She/Her
Hometown: Houston, TX - But Seattle has been my home for 13 years.

Hi friends! I am a 33-year-old mother, barista and cafe manager, avid reader, and life-long learner. Originally from Houston, TX, I moved to Seattle 13 years ago and fell in love with the PNW. In my free time I enjoy spending time with my partner and our daughter and we enjoy exploring nature, reading together, and cooking meals as a family.

I am a graduating senior in the online Integrated Social Sciences program, and I started my college journey at 29 years old during the COVID-19 pandemic when I felt inspired for a career change. As a parent and someone who has always worked full time in the restaurant and service industry, I wasn't sure how I would be able to attend school - however going to college has been the best thing I've ever done. I absolutely love learning and challenging myself! I have maintained a full-time school and work schedule, remained present as a parent, and I have earned a great GPA along the way which is something I am proud of.

I was motivated to apply for this scholarship because I have learned throughout my time in school that I am worth the effort and investment in myself, and others can see that in me too. This scholarship alleviates some of the stress of a tight income as a parent and barista/cafe manager on a budget. It allows me to focus more on my studies without having to worry so much about funding my education.

I am proud to say that in the fall of 2025 I will be attending graduate school to become a Clinical Mental Health Counselor in Seattle. This academic journey has been a blessing, and some day will allow me to provide more for my family. I am grateful and so excited for the future!

Goals

I am attending graduate school at Seattle University in the fall in the online Clinical Mental Health Counseling program, and plan to graduate in 2028! My hope is that I recieve a conditional grant to help fund my graduate program that will allow me to work in community mental health as a therapist.

Tips

Show up with intention and authenticity, and put in your best effort to your application.
