Jaycee Williford
Jaycee is a sophomore majoring in Aquatic Conservation and Ecology, Marine Biology, with a minor in American Indian Studies. Being born and raised in the Pacific Northwest, he has grown up hiking, camping, and spending time outdoors throughout Washington State. Through his community, he has developed a deeper understanding of the nuanced issues plaguing Indigenous communities. Jaycee is hoping to use his career to work collaboratively with tribal nations, either in the Pacific Northwest or with his tribe, the Chickasaw Nation in Oklahoma. Organizations such as the Kurt Grinnell Aquaculture Scholarship Fund have validated Jaycee’s path, continuing to drive his passion for his future. He is eager to continue to collaborate with his peers and learn relevant skills. Outside of school and work, Jaycee loves to spend time outdoors, whether camping or wakeboarding. Additionally, he likes to stay active with friends, often at the gym and through hiking.
Goals
My long-term goal is to work as a researcher for conservation with Tribal Nations. Near-term goals for me are to enjoy the Husky experience and create lifelong connections with others.
