Maria de Jesus Martinez Castro
My name is Maria de Jesus Martinez Castro; I’m currently a junior at the University of Washington, on track to receive my Bachelor of Science in Nursing by June 2027. My passion for nursing stems from my passion to care for individuals underserved in healthcare. My work at a local trauma center, along with an understanding of the systemic barriers that disproportionally impact minorities within healthcare has inspired me to pursue an education where I can provide care while promoting equity in the medical field. My educational goals are rooted in a commitment to lifelong learning, but aside from my academic interests, I also enjoy spending time outdoors and visiting different coffee shops! I was motivated to apply for this scholarship because it serves as a meaningful opportunity to further develop my education in the field of nursing; I’m eager I’ve been able to receive support in order to deepen my understanding regarding clinical treatments and patient interventions. This scholarship will play an important role for my goals as a future nurse; there will be more time to focus on my studies as I prepare to enter the field of nursing with competent skills. I am incredibly grateful for this opportunity and its impact on my nursing journey.
Goals
My current goals are to eventually work as a critical care nurse, serving communities in Seattle. My long-term goals are to continue my education to become a Nurse Practitioner within my field.
