Tiasha Datta
Tiasha holds a B.A. in Spanish and Linguistics from the University of Washington and an M.A. in Linguistics from the University of Edinburgh. Her research on queer Bengali linguistics has been featured at national conferences. Tiasha teaches Spanish to middle schoolers and high schoolers at The Northwest School. She is also a bachata instructor, zouk dancer, book club host, and organizer for Latino events in Seattle. Fulbright will help Tiasha be a better language teacher, and add another language to her teaching experience, which currently includes Bengali and Spanish. She also hopes to learn so much in her time in Mexico - knowledge which will be applied to her future PhD in Hispanic studies.
Tips
The UW Fulbright advisors are an invaluable resource - use them as much as possible. You can book as many meetings as you want with them, and they will give you crucial feedback. Start early, and get as many eyes on your application as possible. Make your application very country-specific. Make it very clear why you need to go to that country specifically.
