Tran Nguyen
I am an Accounting student at the University of Washington Foster School of Business. I moved from Vietnam to Seattle in November 2022 and have enjoyed learning, growing, and adapting to life in a new country. My experiences navigating a new education system and community have helped me become more resilient, independent, and open to new opportunities. Outside of school, I enjoy playing badminton, exploring new boba shops, and studying with friends. I value the friendships and support systems I have built throughout my educational journey, and I enjoy meeting people from different backgrounds and learning from their experiences. My interest in accounting grew through my coursework and my growing understanding of how financial knowledge can create opportunities and stability. I am fascinated by how accounting helps people make informed decisions, plan for the future, and achieve their goals. This interest motivated me to pursue a degree in accounting and apply for scholarships that help make higher education more accessible. In the future, I hope to become a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and use my knowledge to support and give back to my community. I want to help individuals, families, and small businesses better understand financial systems and make confident financial decisions. I am grateful for opportunities that support my education and allow me to continue pursuing my academic, professional, and personal goals.
Goals
In the near term, I hope to excel at Foster, gain hands-on experience through internships, improve my communication and public speaking skills, and continue learning more about accounting. In the long term, I plan to become a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and use my knowledge to help individuals and families better understand financial systems, taxes, and ways to build financial stability.
Tips
Be yourself and tell your story honestly. Don't focus on what you think scholarship committees want to hear. Instead, explain your experiences, challenges, and goals in a genuine way. Start early, and don't be afraid to apply even if you feel uncertain about your chances. Through my way,n I learned that growth often comes from taking that first step. Your experiences and perspective matter more than you think.
